Sweepstakes Rules
Sweepstakes participants should always read the sponsor's official rules for contest entry for clarification
regarding entry limits, exclusions, terms, conditions and qualifications.
Sweepstakes listings on SweepsPlay.com are brief summaries of available prizes and participation eligibility. Each
sweepstakes listing on SweepsPlay.com will include a link to access the full, official, sponsor-provided rules for each
contest.
Below is a list of sweepstakes categories. These are generalizations of typical contests.
Blog
Because blog sweeps are generally run by individuals managing their own blog websites, each contest is unique.
Participants often sign in the blog site and comment or visit a sponsor link. This type of sweepstakes can be time
consuming, however, odds of winning are usually better.
Single Entry
Number of entries per participant is limited to one, and chances of winning are more balanced.
Daily
Entries are limited to one per participant, per calendar day. Odds of winning increase if a participant submits an
entry each day.
24 Hour
Entry allowance is limited to one per 24 hours. Sponsors track participant entry times.
Instant Win
Participants submit an entry form and immediately receive notice if they have won.
Monthly
Participants can enter the contest once per month.
Entries Per Participant
One Per Person
Individual participants are allowed to enter the contest once.
One Per Email
Participants may enter the contest once for each email address associated with that individual.
One Per Person/Email
Individuals may enter the contest once, using a single email address.
One Per Household
Entries are limited to one individual per address.
One per Person/Email/Household
A single individual per household may enter, and that individual's email address can be used only once.
One Per Registration or Account
Entrants must complete a registration form to be eligible to participate. The registered account is then subject to
the sweepstake's entry limits.
One per IP Address/Computer
Only one single individual can enter the sweepstakes using a computer's unique IP (Internet Protocol) address. IP
addresses are usually assigned to internet service providers within region-based blocks. Computers connected to
the internet are assigned a unique number. With this type of contest, the IP address of a computer cannot be
duplicated.
Again, Sweepsplay.com makes every reasonable effort to provide participants with an overview of each contest, but it
is in the participant's own best interest to read the sponsor's official rules to avoid disqualification.
Sweepstakes Laws
Because Sweepsplay.com is a contest directory website, participants will need to locate detailed rules and requirements
for sweepstakes on the contest sponsors' websites. These contests are often subject to federal and state laws. The
information listed on this page is intended to serve as a brief summary only.
State-By-State Availability
Some sponsors choose to limit certain sweepstakes to a given geographical region. Some state laws require sweepstakes
sponsors to register with the state in the event the total value of prizes exceeds a certain monetary amount. Other state
laws impose restrictions upon sponsors who manufacture or distribute tobacco or alcohol, or who offer such products as prizes.
The sweepstakes' official rules will detail which participants are eligible to enter.
Winner's Affidavit
A Sweepstakes Winner's Affidavit is a sponsor-issued legal form which may detail the prize value as well as the
participant's eligibility and release for publicity and liability. Entrants will be required to have the document notarized and
returned to the sponsor by a given deadline in order to claim a prize. In the event the participant is unclear regarding the
details of the affidavit, he or she should consult a legal professional.
Tax Obligations
In the event a participant wins a prize which exceeds a pre-determined monetary value, the sweepstakes sponsor will issue
a legal affidavit as notification that taxes may be due from the participant. After the end of the calendar year in which the
prize was won, the participant will receive a 1099 form, stating the prize value for tax filing purposes.
